I am writing to you as your constituent to seek your urgent action regarding Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from Burma (Myanmar). She has been a beacon of hope for the Burmese people since she joined the democratic movement in 1988. I believe you are aware of the long struggle for democracy and human rights in Burma, as well as the recent deterioration of the human rights situation since the coup in February 2021.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained in prison since February 1, 2021, under unimaginably harsh conditions. She turned 80 in June of this year, and there are growing concerns about her health. The notorious military junta has denied her adequate and prompt medical care, a situation that has also affected other political prisoners, some of whom have lost their lives due to a lack of medical attention.

Like millions of fellow Burmese, I am deeply concerned that we may lose her behind bars. I understand that the UK government has called for her release, along with that of other political prisoners in Burma, but this is still not enough.

I kindly urge you to demand that the UK government exhaust all options to pressure the junta for her unconditional release and ensure she receives appropriate medical care urgently.

Mr. Kim Aris is calling for his mother's immediate release, and I urge you to demand that the UK government arrange for his urgent travel to see her before too late.

Time is of the essence. The urgency of this situation cannot be overstated, as the repercussions of inaction could be profound for both Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the broader cause of democracy. I sincerely hope that prompt and effective actions can be taken to advocate for her health and freedom.
